Big and small, we design them all. Not all bathroom design companies in New Jersey can make that claim. At Tobias Design, many of our long term clients started in smaller homes. We have been doing small bathroom designs for many years now and believe our experience can be helpful to future clients looking to remodel a powder room, convert a smaller country bathroom or overhaul that small bathroom on the second floor into an oasis for kids and guests.
Small Bathroom Designs That Work
The first thing we like to do is to better understand the space we are working with. This includes the space beyond the interior walls. Is there a linen closet, bedroom closet or attic space that may add to the beginning template? Existing plumbing and electricity need to be part of our initial picture.
This downward glance of an existing sketch misses a very important part of making a smaller room appear larger. What di you see when you look up?
Bathroom Skylights and Murals
Often the ceiling is overlooked when designing a bathroom. Can a skylight be added to the design? Perhaps the window on the exterior wall can be expanded. Natural lighting always helps a small room look bigger. We also look to artwork to bring the outside indoors. A ceiling fresco and wall art can be a wonderful addition to darker, smaller rooms and give the appearance of a larger space.
Clear Shower Enclosures
Clear glass for the shower enclosure can be used in small hallway bathroom

designs to extend visual space. We work with bathroom remodelers in Hopewell NJ that ware experts with ceramics and glass.
We recommend removing as much visual clutter when working with small bathroom designs. That also includes vanities and tables that are just too large for the room or have hard corners. That also includes lighting. There is so much that can be done with task lighting in the ceilings and walls that help simplify the ambiance.
Narrow Bathroom Vanities
This vanity below we picked up from Kohler Bancroft accessories
along with the swing door medicine cabinet. The bathroom is adjacent to a guestroom in the home and therefore not used by kids in the move. We elected for clean looking stainless-steel hardware for the sink and lighting fixtures that would help accent the plumbing under the sink. The basketweave marble floor gives the room a very European feel and the client tells me they used a similar bathroom in the hotel they stayed in in Florence.
Powder Room Designs
Now this freestanding vanity with a bowl

front is being using in a powder room that is accessed off the kitchen. When guests visit this home, this may be the first impression someone gets. It is also used by many in the home before leaving the home and an opportunity to freshen up when they were coming or going. Therefore, more counter space was required. We added a Brizzo wall mounted faucet in Cocoa Bronze and Polished Nickel and the lighting sconces are also from the same line of Brizzo accessories to keep the hardware looking in harmony. The white painted cabinetry and wall mirror are in harmony with the kitchen cabinetry. We designed the white painted kitchen cabinetry for this client a year earlier.
Bathroom Design Companies Don’t All Do Small Baths
Lisa and her team of designers have been working with clients in Central New Jersey for over twenty years. Many of our earlier clients are still with us. Large or small, we tackle all projects with the same enthusiasm and desire to please. Today we are working with 2nd and 3rd generations within those families. Mainly because we tend to be so flexible in design styles. We work with bathroom remodelers throughout Hunterdon, Somerset and Mercer County NJ that have been with us for many years as well. No need to fix anything is nothing is broken. We have been blessed with a great team over the years and trust that this trend will continue for years to come.
