Many of the kitchen island designs we do today include a sink and prep area. Some of the more unique kitchen island ideas have us installing a copper kitchen sink or this wooden countertop we did for an
open kitchen design. This post will share with you 3 designs for kitchen islands that we have done in the last three years that include a sink. All are beautiful kitchen islands that were designed to meet the needs of the family. Let’s take a peek at the first one.
Kitchen Islands With Sink
Here we have a home chef living in the house that loves to sauté and make soups. Therefore, his hands needed to be rinsed often. They wanted plenty of prep space on the custom kitchen island, but the sink was more for rinsing vegetables and handwashing. This kitchen also has a primary stainless steel sink off to the right for the heavy work of washing pots and pans.
The Décor six burner gas cooktop is the hero in this kitchen and the custom island serves several purposes. We found a beautiful Quartzite countertop with great grey veining for the island. Don’t know what quartzite is? This blog post compares
quartz vs quartzite for countertops.
The sink hardware as you can see is a simple single handle control for on and off with a pull down sprayer head. Simple, stylish and easy to clean.
Kitchen Island Custom Built
Almost all of our kitchen islands are custom made. We do source the sinks, appliances, countertops and some of the semi-custom cabinetry we install. But we never buy a prefabricated kitchen island and try to make that work. Our kitchen remodeling contractors that do your custom kitchen islands are accomplished carpenters with an eye for details. Installing a sink and electrical outlets within the frame and cabinetry demands a quality craftsman/woman to do the work.
This custom made kitchen island serves as a dining option as well. Some time ago, I wrote about a few
kitchen island designs with seating that became a very popular post. Here you see seating for 3 with the view looking in on the cook area. The counter height, chair height and chair depth were all part of the equation before we engaged our
custom cabinet maker. The
modern shaker style cabinets above the stove was done offsite but the kitchen island was built onsite by our kitchen remodeling crew. We had them painted before the countertops were installed. Looks like a perfect fit right?
Angled Kitchen Islands are Out but This Modern Kitchen Island Design Has a Few Curves
This kitchen is located in a high rise building along the Jersey Shore. The couple that owns the condo does some entertaining with very little cooking going on. They were looking to have their newly remodeled kitchen island serve as a place to meet, greet and mingle with their beach going guests. The kitchen island sink is the only sink in the kitchen and therefore serve multiple purposes. The three tiered counters create a nice downhill flow. Sitting and dining on one end and a curved buffet service on the other. The wine cooler in this case is front and center. A
sleek modern cabinet design helps portray a trendy appearance for this space.
Design Line Kitchen Island with Purpose
Straight, clean lines for this modern kitchen island design. This kitchen sink workstation is an undermount model that includes a 16 gauge stainless steel bowl for straining pasta, a sustainable bamboo cutting board, drying rack, and a bottom grid with protective rubber feet. This kitchen island is all about the sink.
