What Are Shaker Cabinets You Ask?
Shaker style cabinets have a history that dates back to the late 1700’s.
The Shaker kitchen cabinet door and drawer style fits the values of the community that developed it. Simplicity, functional, fine craftmanship is how The
Shaking Quakers built all their furniture. Reminiscent of those early values, modern shaker style cabinets feature a simple recessed panel construction with a 1.5-2 inch rail frame. Often no bevel or special design work that adorns the door frame. The hinges are concealed and the pull hardware that best suites shaker style kitchen cabinet doors should also be simple.
Shaker Style Cabinets for Your Kitchen
I would say that 40% of our customers today settle of shaker style cabinet doors over the other 5
kitchen cabinet door styles we suggest. High quality
custom cabinet makers use a blemish free FAS or F1F Pine wood for the door and face material. Although we have used other solid hardwoods such as Alder, White Oak and Hard Maple to build shaker cabinetry, White Pine is the traditional wood type used in Shaker cabinetry and furniture. Customers young and more seasoned love the smooth clean look of the modern shaker style cabinets in their kitchen.
And we love installing them because they often go in with ease.
White Shaker Cabinet Doors & Drawers
As you would expect, more than half of the cabinets we do are finished in white semi-gloss paint. On occasion, we get a chance to shake-up the color scheme with a splash of color. This kitchen design project was one of those opportunities. We decided on full overlay shaker cabinets painted in a beautiful pearl white for the perimeter of this kitchen. We added some open shelving in the corner for décor and a black range hood and stovetop to add contrast. The kitchen island design features the same shaker style cabinets, but we painted those in a deep royal blue. Whenever possible, the painting occurs at the manufacturer and we dictate the paint color and finish. Finishing cabinetry after installation is never advisable. The results as you can see was amazing.
Custom Shaker Cabinet Doors, Drawer Fronts, Pantry Doors, even the Ceiling is Shaker of Sorts
Most of the kitchens we design involve custom aspects that require us to customize the cabinetry. In this case, the client found a
kitchen island design with seating that she just had to have. The gas range you will see is inset within the kitchen island and that required gas lines and under range access for the utilities. The dining area countertop is one inch thick Hickory with a beautiful Chestnut stain finish and a urethane sealant to protect the wood. The entire kitchen island was custom built including the chairs. As you can see, the pantry door is shaker style, and the kitchen ceiling is an attractive rail and recessed panel design we came up with to bring this all together.
