Big windows with plenty of sunlight helped us develop a kitchen design that is bold and beautiful. Our client had some very definite ideas on color and the high-end appliances they wanted to see in their new kitchen. They love this dusty blue hue for the cabinetry as it appears in furniture, throw pillows and accents found in adjacent rooms. Often these darker blues need a lift of color to brighten the space. In this case, we had plenty of natural light coming in from an 8-foot-wide window over the sink, a sliding glass door to the deck and a handsome sunlit breakfast area.
I Shaped Kitchen with Island Seating
We decided on white oak for our kitchen cabinetry material. We are using shaker style front panels and doors. We specified a rift cut for the boards which positions the wood grain at 30- and 60-degree angles on the face of the boards. We wanted to highlight the natural wood grain, which is clearly visible even with a few coats of this dusty blue paint. We selected a beautiful slab of reclaimed wood for the island dining top and asked our team to clean up all surfaces and finish the countertop with a very high gloss lacquer to seal in the natural beauty.
Now we have done many
kitchen island designs with seating that came out fantastic but I must say this island is one of my favorites. The reclaimed wood slab we selected also was used to create 6 open shelves around the French top range and above the coffee/wine bar.
Lacanche Range: Classic French Cooking for Today’s Modern Chef
Our client fell in love with the Cluny 1400 Lacanche French top range for their kitchen.
It was a “must have” for them. The husband has some serious culinary skills that needed to be exploited. He discovered the Lacanche stove brand during a trip to a vineyard in the Côte d’Or region of France. This
video on the Lacanche website discusses the culinary tradition found in that region.
Also take notice of the white farmhouse sink we installed on the left in this picture. A farmhouse kitchen sink has made a big comeback in recent years. This us an undermounted installation for this rounded apron sink and as you can see, it is aesthetically pleasing, has a nice deep basin and will add value to the kitchen for many years to come. We thought this
classic waterside white farmhouse sink from Rohl was perfect for the occasion.
All the other appliances in this kitchen are stainless steel and help reflect the natural light coming in from all angles. We help source a wide range of
luxury kitchen appliances. In this case, we acquired a 36” convection oven and a wine chiller from Wolf SubZero. The Smart Refrigeration unit was from the GE Café series.
We used white granite for the countertops and all the sink hardware was from the Moen line of faucets. The white ceramic tile flooring was selected to offset some of the darker colors in the family room and the wooded stools we selected for the kitchen island. All of these details were worked out long before we did any demo work to the older kitchen we were replacing. Nothing was left to chance before we started any work.
